Welcome to Quiz Solver AI - Homework & Exam Assistant! Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy outlines how the Quiz Solver AI Chrome Extension (“we”, “our”, or “the Extension”) handles your information to strictly comply with Google Chrome Web Store User Data Privacy policies and industry data protection standards.

In accordance with Google’s requirements, this policy explicitly details our practices regarding the collection, handling, storage, and sharing of user data, as well as the permissions requested by the extension.

1. Extension Permissions & Justification

To function correctly, the extension requests the following permissions. Here is how they are used and how they relate to your privacy:

• activeTab (Active Tab Interaction): The extension requests no permanent access to any website. Chrome grants it temporary access to the current tab only when you click "Solve Quiz" or press the Alt + A keyboard shortcut; that access is used to capture the visible quiz and display the answers board. We DO NOT monitor, track, collect, or store your web browsing history, and nothing runs on pages you have not invoked the extension on.
• storage (Local Settings): Used exclusively to save your local extension preferences (such as selected AI model, personal API key if using Free mode, and Pro license activation state) locally on your device.
• scripting (Answers Board): Required to load the floating answers board into the quiz tab after you invoke the extension. The extension does not modify, click, or type into any element of the page.

2. User Data Collection

We collect the absolute bare minimum amount of data required to provide our quiz-solving assistance:

• Quiz Question Data: When you click "Solve Quiz" or press the shortcut, a screenshot of the currently visible area of the active tab is captured and sent to the AI model so it can read the questions and answer options. The screenshot is processed in real time and is never logged, permanently saved, or tied to your personal identity. Make sure only the quiz is visible on screen before solving.
• License Activation Data: If you upgrade to our Pro or Annual plan, you will enter a License Key. We process this key to validate your purchase status with our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy). To enforce fair-use limits, our server keeps a one-way hashed identifier of the license key together with a monthly count of solved quizzes; the key itself and the quiz content are not stored.
• Custom API Key (Optional): If you choose the Free (BYOK) mode, your personal Gemini API key is stored strictly on your local browser. It is never transmitted to our servers.
• What we DO NOT collect: We absolutely do not collect your personal browsing history, unrelated web page URLs, search queries, personal emails, passwords, or financial/credit card details.

3. User Data Handling (How We Use Your Data)

We only use the data we process for the sole purpose of operating the extension's core features:

• Quiz Solving: The screenshot of the visible quiz is transmitted securely to Google's official Gemini AI API (or through our secure serverless proxy in Pro mode) strictly to analyze choices and return the optimal answer choice.
• License Validation: The License Key you enter is transmitted to our backend merchant (Lemon Squeezy) to verify your Pro subscription status and unlock cloud solving.
• Payments: All subscription and payment processing is handled entirely by our merchant of record (Lemon Squeezy). We do not handle, process, or see your credit card or banking information.

4. User Data Storage & Security

We are committed to keeping your data secure and minimizing data retention:

• Local Storage (No Cookies / No Cross-Site Trackers): We use Chrome’s Local Storage mechanism exclusively to store your app preferences and license state locally on your device. We DO NOT use tracking cookies, analytics trackers, or advertising pixels (like Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel) to track your web activity across sites.
• Encryption & Security: All network communications (including AI requests and license verification) take place strictly over secure, encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.

5. User Data Sharing & Limited Use Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third parties for marketing, advertising, or any other purposes. We only share data with the following trusted service providers strictly necessary for the extension to function:

• Google Generative AI (Gemini): Processes question text to generate answers under Google's enterprise API privacy terms.
• Lemon Squeezy: If you subscribe to Pro, your license key is verified via Lemon Squeezy API purely to validate your transaction and manage your subscription.

Limited Use Compliance: The Quiz Solver AI extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we affirm that:

• Allowed use: We only use permissions and process user data to provide or improve our single purpose and core user-facing features (detecting and solving quiz questions).
• Allowed transfer: We only transfer user data to third parties if that transfer is necessary to provide the core AI solving and license verification, comply with applicable laws, or protect security.
• Prohibited advertising: We NEVER use or transfer user data to serve personalized, re-targeted, or interest-based advertisements.
• Prohibited human interaction: We do not allow humans to read user data unless we obtain your explicit consent, it is necessary for security purposes, or required by law.

6. User Rights & Data Deletion

You have full control over your data at all times. Because your preferences are stored locally in your browser, you can delete all your data instantly at any time simply by:

• Clicking the "Clear" button in the extension popup to wipe your stored API key.
• Uninstalling the extension from chrome://extensions/ to wipe all local data completely.

7. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Our extension is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that personal information from a child has been collected, we will delete it immediately.
